Vineyard Sources in
The Rocks District

In 2019, Brian and April Zawada came upon a rugged piece of land in the foothills of the Coast Mountains with 88 acres of mostly untouched land and a three-acre vineyard planted to Pinot noir at the top. It was perfect. They purchased it in September 2019 - Violet Vines was born! About two years later, after discovering the magic of Rocks District-sourced wines, they purchased a five-acre Cherry orchard and converted it into a vineyard the following year.

With unwavering dedication, they have nurtured their vision and two vineyards meticulously into 31 acres of diverse varietals (five of those acres are in The Rocks, with Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre planted), two tasting rooms in the Willamette Valley, a vibrant array of products and a next-gen wine tasting experience. Their journey into the world of wine continues to grow and evolve every day.

Vineyard Sources

Starting in 2024, we will begin producing Syrah, with Grenache and Mourvèdre beginning in 2025 from our estate vineyard in The Rocks. In the meantime, we’ve been sourcing fruit from a number of vineyards in the Rocks, including Freewater Rocks, Rock Bottom, Hewitt Place and Ducleaux. This is in addition to the wines we produce in the Willamette Valley, predominately the McMinnville and Eola-Amity Hills AVAs.

Brian & April Zawada, Owners

Brian and April Zawada, the passionate founders of Violet Vines, spent much time throughout Brian’s professional career traveling to Oregon. Adventuring to new wineries in such a majestic place grew into a shared dream to create something extraordinary, to cultivate a legacy rooted in their love for nature, the art of winemaking and each other.

Following a successful career in the military, professional services and software, Brian transitioned to winemaking with incredible mentoring from so many incredible winemakers (as well as some incredible instruction from UC Davis). Today, Brian continues to transform incredible Pinot noir and Chardonnay from the Willamette Valley into fantastic terroir driven wines (with four more varietals coming in 2024), and is doing the same Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre in The Rocks.
