Reynvaan Family Vineyards Story

Reynvaan Family Vineyards (pronounced “Rhine-van”) is a family-owned and operated winery dedicated to producing Rhône-style red and white wines, along with distinctive Bordeaux varietals that reflect the unique terroir of our estate vineyards.

Our journey began in 2005 with the planting of “In The Rocks” Vineyard, located in Milton-Freewater on an ancient alluvial fan of the Walla Walla River. This site is renowned for its cobblestone-laden soils, which create wines of incredible depth, minerality, and complexity. In 2008, we established “Foothills in the Sun” Vineyard in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, where deep silty loam and wind-blown loess provide a striking contrast in terroir, resulting in wines with exceptional structure and freshness.

At Reynvaan, we believe that great wines start in the vineyard. Our hands-on, holistic approach to farming and winemaking ensures that every step—from planting and trellising to pruning, dropping fruit, hand-harvesting, and meticulous berry sorting—is done with care and precision. By working exclusively with estate fruit, we capture a true sense of place in every bottle, crafting wines with complexity, balance, and age-worthiness.

There are no shortcuts. Just an unwavering commitment to expressing the land, the vines, and the meticulous craftsmanship behind every vintage. It is our privilege to produce wines that bring joy to collectors and oenophiles around the world.

Matt Reynvaan, Winemaker

Reynvann Family Vineyards approaches winegrowing with an unwavering commitment to hands-on craftsmanship, from planting each vine to trellising, pruning, dropping fruit, and finally picking and sorting the berries at harvest. Matt considers it a privilege to grow grapes and produce wines that he hopes customers around the world enjoy as much as he does.

His journey into wine began with an epiphany: a 1978 Pichon Lalande that his father opened and they shared on the deck of the house where he grew up. That formative experience set him on a path that would ultimately define his life’s work.

Matt's approach to winemaking is distinctly non-interventionalist. He believes that if the job is done well in the vineyards, the winemaker can observe and gently guide the wines, allowing them to express themselves. Through his wines, he strives to convey a true sense of place and highlight the distinct terroirs of his vineyards.

Because most of Matt’s winemaking happens in the vineyard, each year brings its own set of challenges and nuances. As a 100% estate-grown winery, every vintage is a reflection of what the vineyard offers that year, making his work both demanding and deeply rewarding.
