Now, we’re finally ready to announce that our inaugural planting will take place in 2027, with a focus on Rhône varieties.
Not Open to the public
Written in Stone started with a love story. A tale as old as time, as they say. Except it’s more than just a romance between two people. It may have begun that way, but this plot has woven itself into a patchwork of connections, each one leaving a lasting impression on us, the winery’s founders, Dave and Christie DeMott.
Each of our friends and family has believed in us from the very beginning, since we naively (but with lots of enthusiasm) announced that we were buying a 20-acre orchard in the Rocks District AVA nestled within the Walla Walla Valley AVA. They’ve been praising and rooting for us every step of the way, even those who are still unsure exactly where Walla Walla is.
From uprooting the more than 50-year-old apple trees (we kept a nostalgic few) to selecting the grape varieties and designing the property layout, it’s been quite a journey—and not the whimsical fairytale often shown in TV shows or Hallmark movies. Let’s not romanticize it; while we’ve enjoyed it, the process has been tough with staggering unknowns, sleepless nights and endless decisions. Now, we’re finally ready to announce that our inaugural planting will take place in 2027, with a focus on Rhône varieties.
After twenty years, our love story has been written in stone, and has taught us to be grateful for one another, to be grateful for our loved ones and to be grateful for this new chapter in our lives. So how we got here, how we started Written in Stone may not be unique, but it’s certainly meaningful to us, to our community and we hope to all of you, our new wine tribe.
Welcome. We can’t wait to raise a glass with you.
